My name is Michael O'Hara and I manage The COMPLETE Bard's Tale Web Page!. I played The Bard's Tale series on my Commodore 64 when I was a teenager, and I truly enjoyed the games very much. Hours upon hours of non-stop enjoyment. Michael Cranford was truly a genius. I would love to see Interplay release a fourth title continuing on the tradition. It just doesn't seem right after all these years. Here's hoping! :)

Please if there is one ounce of goodness in you make a Bard's tale 4. I will be good and eat all my veggies. I will make my bed. I will even try to quit smoking. (But don't hold your breath on that one) Thank you...

As a long time bard's tale fan, I have never found a game to satisfy my RPG needs since this original hit. I hereby request the production of a new, 4th in the series Bard's Tale adventure game.

I also enjoyed playing the Bard's tales. It would be nice if there was a modern "sequel" like Bards Tale IV. With all the advances in "game" computing I bet it would be a smashing success.

The world needs another Bard's Tale! I believe enough people remember the old Bard's tale games to ensure that another Bard's Tale would be a commercial success. After all, look at the success Infocom have had with their new Zork games; combining the essence of the old games with newer technology. If the same thing was done with a Bard's Tale IV, I'm sure it would be one of the best games for ages!

This is cool indeed! The Bard's Tale series isn't equaled by any other computer RPG so far, and if my email can help persuade EA to make a new addition, I'm veeery happy.

I would love it if Bard's Tale was rereleased. Only if they just revamped the graphics and kept the game engine the same. Sorry I like my none real time games. I hate running to the bathroom only to come back and find out you are dead. Much better to come back and find those twenty fire breathing dragons waiting for you. Plus they would need a new BTCS. Also I hope they keep the saved games in a similar way. OK so I like to hack.

Count me in for the BT4 petition. With the renewed success of RPG's like Might and Magic VI and Fallout, it would be to Interplay's advantage to release an updated Bard's Tale (not too updated, though... I suspect the nostallgia factor may be BT4's biggest selling point in a market I foresee as soon-to-be-overflowing with M&M6-esque 3D-rendered hackfests...).
I mean, at the very least I'd settle for a new Bard's Tale Construction Set, since the old one is so hear-tearingly limited in applying all the ideas I have.
(Do you have an email address for a "suggestions" person at Interplay? We really need to bring this to their attention in a BIG way...)
Thanks for all your work. Keep it up!

There has to be a Bard's Tale 4, not only to continue the ongoing story of the greatest computer RPG/Adventure Series of the 80's and early 90's but also I have a level 286 Geomancer from BT3, and i really want to kick some more ass!!!! I had been playing Bard's Tale games since i was about 6, on my C64 (I'm 13 now) And i wasted SO much time on those games, like I'm sure we all did, that they OWE it to us to make another, it's not like you have to do that much, the spell list relatively stays the same, the graphics are simple, and a decent story line shouldn't take more than a couple weeks to think up and make good. If enough people petition this, they might take the spare time to give us what we want.

I have loved the Bards tale series since I was introduced to it by a friend when I was in Grade 7, which was nine years ago now. I still have original copies of all three games, I never had any interest in the construction kit however. I think it would be a great idea to release a new Bards tale. But lets not change too much. We're not looking for another quake or doom here, we want something similar to the original with maybe a little snazz and jazz from 90's technology.

Sign me up for the Bard's Tale IV petition! I grew up playing all 3 of the series, in fact the original Bard's Tale is the first game I remember buying with my own money for my C64. I later ended up buying both BTI and III when I got my IBM. To this day I enjoy cranking them up occasionally -- in fact, I haven't yet beaten any of the 3!

About time, I was just thinking the same thing myself. I've been playing Might & Magic 6 for the last few weeks and it keeps reminding me of the good ole days playing Bard's Tale. I mention Might & Magic 6 because it proves there is a want for a CRPG that isn't multi-player. From what I've read on-line and in the mags is that this is a hot title. It's flying off the shelves. Now imagine what would happen if Bard's Tale 4 was a reality? I would probably never be on-line. I own Bard's Tale I, II, & III. I love 'em all and I believe it would be the right, just, and true thing to release Bard's Tale IV. All I can say is WAKE UP!!!!! Heh heh. =)

I used to have a C-64 and the first game I played was Bard's Tale 1. I had played BT1, BT2, and Wasteland on the C-64. I just recently bought the Ultimate RPG pack and it is great once again to defeat Mangar and all the evil forces. But I would really like to see what Bard's Tale would look like if they used all of the programming techniques of today, just like in Final Fantasy VII. I am a big RPG player, and probably have played most games out there, but I still go back and knock away at the Bard's Tale Series and Wasteland, because to me those are the most challenging.

I think Bard's Tale I on the Amiga was the first CRPG I had ever seen, and I loved it. After that I saw BTIII on a C64, and a friend of mine and myself spent hours and hours playing it. But it took me so long to find the series for PC, and now that I have, most of my spare time is spent playing the game or working on my web site about the games. I would love to see a BT4 with the same game play, but with newer graphics and better sound/music. And with todays technology, the game could be so great, and deep. I don't have alot of extra money these days, but if BT4 was on the shelves of stores today, I would buy it.

Never. Ever. EVER. has there been a game that can surpass any of the Bard's Tale games in greatness. Many have tried, all have failed. Ever since seeing The Bard's Tale I on the Apple IIGS in middle school, I knew I was hooked. Once I picked up The Bard's Tale II for my own PC, who knows how much time, sweat, and graph paper I went through to beat that game. No game since then has had me so enraptured in its clever mix of action, cunning, and intrigue. If BT4 were to be released, not only would it draw me back to my computer screen for hours to come, but it would reawaken that exhilarating, adventurous feeling I haven't felt since I was in eighth grade. -Adam
P.S. I'm currently a computer science senior at Princeton Univ. who will be looking for a programming job next year.. What a dream it would be to help CREATE BT4...

No news on a Bard's Tale IV yet? It's been ten years...there's no sense in letting such a great game go, especially with such a wide following. The fascination I've had for the Bard's Tale series has been unduplicated in the ten years since I completed BT3. How about an encore?

Fan of computer quasi-RPG's that I am, I loved Bard's Tale I and II while I had my Apple IIc. Now, let there be a fourth game...and let's see to it that the Macintosh users can enjoy the experience. Preferably at least 68030-compatible (since that's what I have...they did it with Civilization II, so why not Bard's Tale IV?). And while they're at it, I would most appreciate it if the original Mangar/Tarjan trilogy were also released for Macintosh (again, trying for 68030 compatibility). After all, not all of us have SoftPC or SoftWindows, so we can't necessarily resort to Ultimate RPG Archives...

I spent many an hour playing all 3 Bard's Tales. One and Two were far better than EA's weak attempt to carry on the Bard'd Tale tradition, after shooing away Michael Cranford, with Bard's Tale 3. I would like to know why EA decided to abandon RPGs all together. Are they scared of success? And why are they so unwilling to license the rights to Interplay? Are they so small that they hold a grudge against them after all this time? I think EA needs to fire half of their marketing dept. that keeps telling them that sports are what everyone wants. Truth be known, I haven't seen one sports title from EA that I would be willing to buy. They are all too hard to control, and the shifting cameras gets too confusing. I don't even know one person who owns one of their sports titles on the computer, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, or Playstation. And I used to be a salesperson at Software Etc. where these games are stocked ritually. EA needs to wake up and smell the air, 'cause the stuff coming from their factory is not fit for consumption in my opinion. Most of their titles are second rate. And I used to be a devout EA fan when they released titles like Sentinel Worlds, Wasteland and Bard's Tale. As a matter of fact, I still have all of the games I just mentioned, and I go back and play them regularly. YES, I CHOOSE TO PLAY THOSE OLD GAMES WITH WHAT ARE BY TODAYS STANDARDS, DUMPY GRAPHICS, OVER THE NEW GAMES PUT OUT BY EA, BECAUSE THEY HAVE P L O T, PLOT!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus the interface is not some mindless reflex reaction game like DOOM. EA, If you even bother to read this letter, yeah right, get off your ass and make something that's worth the $60-$70 bucks, and then I'll consider spending my money on your products. Any questions?

Picked up the RPG archives on CD to get my hands on a RPG game for the computer. Fortunately I loaded the BT game first. It takes me back to those days of doing it the hard way with paper, dice, and a story teller. EA and Interplay, get together on this and work something out for BTIV. I'm having a blast playing BTI, and can't wait to move on to II and III. Maybe by the time I finish BTIII, you'll have IV on the shelves waiting for us all.

Here's my beef for EA: If you don't want to make the game...give it to Interplay! I am at this moment playing Bard's Tale I (a game I played many hours on my C-64). Why am I still playing this "ancient" game? Because it's one of the best games out there! I've played all the "Dooms" out there and the TSR games, but nothing compares to the Bard's Tale series. So I keep coming back to these games, dreaming of a Bard's Tale IV. In EA's defense...sure production is expensive, but if BT IV is as far and away a better game then anything out there (as the origionals were..and still are in my opinion) then what's the risk? I believe most of the RPG junkies out there got hooked on the genre playing BT and would jump at the chance to play it again. EA/Interplay was the best in the industry...but are they still?? Prove it to us.

Electronic Arts,
I am certain that you are aware of the recent
rise in popularity of RPGs over the past year or so, many of which are
new additions to time-honored series, like Wizardry or Might & Magic.
As the owner of the rights to the Bard's Tale, you should definitely
produce a sequel. There is not only a strong demand for a sequel from
the die-hard Bard's Tale fans, myself included, but also in all those
people purchasing the new RPGs. I'm sure Interplay would be happy to
write the game if you licensed them the rights; this would take no
effort or risk on the part of your company and would only result in
revenue for EA and happy consumers.

I grew up on games such as the Bard's Tales series and others line Wizardry I, II, III from Sir-Tech. It's been too many years since a good quality party-based, mouse-eye viewed RPG game has been on the market. A release of Bards Tale IV would great. I can understand that there would have to be some work done on it in order to make it marketable in today world. Ported from DOS to DirectX with sharper graphics, etc. but it would be well worth the effort!

I have been playing the Bard's Tale series in the eighties and early nineties on the PC and I can say that this series is the best RPG games I have played, until now. I miss the music in the three series, the graphics of the various classes and monsters in the three series and the anachronisms of the third series (eg. the robots in Kinestia and the soldiers and bikers in Tarmitia.) I would like to see Bard's Tale IV bring forth some of the graphics and RPG style of turn-based combat with surprises like those I mentioned in the third series. I would like to see the next series in Bard's Tale appear as it would appear to be a waste to give up on such a series which I still enjoy, until now.

On the subject of releasing Bard's Tale IV:
I have played A LOT
of CRPGs since I was little, and to this day I would still rank Bard's
Tale as THE BEST CRPG series (with the Phantasie Trilogy placing a
close second) I have EVER played. There are so few games that can
challenge me or hold my interest for very long. Bard's Tale II was
THE most challenging game I had played - EVER. I began it in 7th grade
- I finished it my sophomore year of COLLEGE. That is the sign of a
truly remarkable game... one with a lasting impact. Final Fantasy VII?
Yeah - great game, excellent graphics, but I beat it within two weeks.
If I were to sit down and play it again right now, I'd beat it in
maybe four days. Bard's Tale II? Even though I've already beaten it,
it would still take a dauntingly long time to complete again. As for
Bard's Tale I and III? Well... I'm still struggling through those two.
Heh - those are the games that wore out my Commodore 64. =)
PLEASE! I promise you, if the Bard's Tale Series were to begin again I would be the first one in line at the game store waiting for Bard's Tale IV with my $50. And to think how much money was invested into BTIV - for what? - an incomplete game that's archived away somewhere collecting dust. Now think about how LITTLE it would cost to finish and release it. Why not collect some of that money that's been locked away for so many years? People will buy it, even with it's outdated graphics, even though it may not have 3D cutscenes and digitized voiceovers - people will buy it. Why? For the same reason they're buying The Forgotten Realms Archives and The Complete RPG Archives. Nostalgia. '80's nostalgia is making a lot of people a lot of money right now. On top of that, CRPGs are making a big comeback, too. Now would be the perfect time for you to release Bard's Tale IV. Or at least pass on the rights to another company who's not afraid to release CRPGs. Well, that's my 2 cents. Thanks for reading.

I say chaps, I played Bards Tale I on my friend's PC much to his disgust. Then I saw that Bards Tale 3 was out for the C64. So I sent 15 pounds over to England because it was hard to get games in Australia then and played it to death. Nowadays, when I play games which are focused too much on action and not enough on intellect, I crave for Bards Tale 3. There hasn't been much in the way of decent RPGs to satisfy me. Bards Tale 4 could be released soon, without turning it into a Quake clone (like everything else), and I believe it could be a great game - even 10 years after the last game. If you don't want it EA please let Interplay have the licence - it sucks how greed can deny a great team at Interplay to produce a masterpiece.

I can't understand why a game where you actually have to think a little bit (I don't use all the hints - that would spoil the fun) should suddenly be dropped. So sign me up for your petition!

I have been looking for a good Bard's Tale page for awhile without any luck. I thought I would have to make my own page and start my own petition, but since you've already done that, there's no need. I too played all three of the series over and over! I toyed with the construction set, and dreamed of a Bard's Tale IV. After all, the stories just kept getting better and better, and graphics kept improving. The game series was so successful that I was shocked to learn EA wasn't going to be doing another. I personally would love to see the 4th BT finished and released, even though it would look very dated. There are alot of us "old timers" who loved the series and would jump at the chance to delve into one of our favorite universes yet again. Please, please, please reconsider your position EA. I would love to see a BTIV. I'll certainly snail mail EA. It seems petty that they won't at least license, and we're not talking about selling, but license the Bard's Tale name to Interplay. With the modern processing, graphical, and multi-media power of PC's and MAC's a great game would become even greater. I'm glad somebody out there is making an effort.

I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed the three Bard's Tale games. They surpass nearly every other CRPG that has come out since in enjoyability and replayability. If EA released a new one with today's technology, it would blow anything out there away. These were original and challenging games, and there needs to be more like them.

I have just purchased The Ultimate RPG Archives. Do you know why? BECAUSE IT HAD ALL 3 ORIGINAL BARD'S TALE GAMES IN IT!!! DUH! I think it is a serious financial mistake for EA not to release or allow Interplay to release a new Bard's Tale title. Like many of you, I'm sure, I own all 3 games on serveral different platforms. There is a reason why we all paid that much money for 2-5 copies of essentially the same games! They were inovative and enthralling, setting the stage for a whole CRPG genre which those of us millions who got hooked are still hungry for more! I say if they don't release a new Bard's Tale we sick the Goredroolers on em!!! (he he he)

By all means, release Bard's Tale 4, particularly if it has been mostly completed. Do not underestimate the market for nostalgia. Clearly, RPG computer games are making a comeback, given the success of games such as Might and Magic VI, Fallout, and the Elder Scrolls games. Moreover, companies are recognizing that there is a market for retro computer games, and releasing many older games such as the Infocom text adventures, the Ultimate RPG Archives, and the collection of Forgotten Realms games.
It seems that the trend in the computer game industry is to direct games towards a younger audience, who have attention spans measurable with a stopwatch. They need the glitzy graphics and sound effects to keep them interested. But there are many of us who play computer games with our minds, not our reflexes, and we are more concerned with the storyline and the design. More and more it seems we are being forgotten by the industry.

Hi, my name probably isn't important, but my desire for "old school" RPGs is valid enough. Bard's Tale 3 got me interested in a wide variety of RPG's, of all kinds. I played the TSR gold box series, a few of the Ultimas, and even threw myself into the Might and Magic series... Still, I wanna see what Bard's Tale could be... NOW... In the LATE 90's!!!! Sorry for shouting. I just want to have a little fun... NOW!!!

I was playing BT on the old Comm64 and believed it was the best game ever produced. Since upgrading, I have been struggling to find it but once I did, BT3 has reminded me of how damn good this RPG is. I am only new to the internet and the opportunity to make a statement regarding the production of BT4 is heaven sent. PLEASE GIVE ME BT4. The only game which has come even close to BT3 is the Ultima series(hint there, SERIES!).

I'm french and 10 years ago, when I was 13 years old, i worked very hard to have enough money to buy a fantastic game : Bard's Tale 3. I can remember what I felt when i opened the "box" : it was so impressive, I got the disks into my Apple 2e and from here on, I spent hours and hours, playing this wonderful piece of artwork. 2 weeks ago, I picked up a copy of Applewin and the image of BT3 on the net and I just went to heaven. 10 years after the first time, i feel the same, i am anxious when battling against evil hordes, hoping to make it to the exit of the dungeon. I guess this is a unique RPG, though i played many of them since. It would be incredible to discover another sequel to the trilogy : Bard's Tale 4 would be more than a game, it would be pure pleasure.

There are so few games of such a calibre as the Bard's Tale series was that I now find myself looking for a game to even try to come close to the experiences and emotions raging through me as I first defeated "The sage" or first delved deep into a dungeon and came up against berzerkers. The elation at recieving a new level at the hands of the review board. These games were the rpg's I first ever played and now we NEED a sequel to keep the love alive.

I agree, lets get BT back in the running. If EA wont do it, to hell with them. Lets get some people together and code it ourselves and show what we come up with to EA and see if they are willing to do something with it. I am a pretty decent programmer (I suck at graphics) so if you could get a few graphics phreaks together we could get a few more coders and a couple of novelists and we could get started.

Although a newcomer to the bards tale series, I would love to see an actual, well developed rpg style game as opposed to the first person stuff, it gets old real fast. I think that wasteland was the best game plot ever, and would like to see a revival of that sort of complexity in the market. If you have such a game out there, I would willingly shell out 50 dollars for it.

Count me in! A new BT adventure would certainly have my full support and I hope that EA and Interplay can work something out. I hope it will be soon, because the games of today don't give the same challange as the BT series did: fighting monsters AND solving puzzles.

How can we not have a new Bard's Tale? With all the new graphics and sounds I can't believe this game would be anything but a BIG HIT. I played the original on a Commandor 64 and now have Bard's Tales I, II, & III with the construction set on The Ultimate Archives CD's but these are not enough. Please, Please, Please.... and you must know how hard it is for a Lady to beg.

I would buy a pre-release of any sequel to Bard's Tale!!! I still have yet to buy a game that held my completely through the game at least 10 times. That includes all 3 games. In fact, I still keep an old 486 running DOS because game developers now a-days don't know how to make a game.

I am a serious computer gamer (read as I buy 4 or more games per month and a new computer every year). One of the first games I ever played was the original Bard's Tale on an Amiga 1000. I played that game for months, and then a year later, went back and played the whole thing again from scratch. Well, over 10 years later I bought the Ultimate RPG set and fired up the Bard's Tale again. Why did I pay $44.99 for these outdated games? Because there has never been another RPG series (with the possible exception of M&M) to come close to it. Sure, the graphics are better nowadays, but the gameplay has not improved one iota! In fact if you were to put out Bard's Tale 4 with the same graphics and interface as the old series, I'm sure you would have a mega-hit despite all the flashy new technology you would be ignoring.
What I'm saying is, your procrastination is a crime against imagination! Get back on the horse and make us another sequel already!

The first time I have played one game of the Bard's Tale series, it was Bard's Tale 3 on Commodore Amiga. Since, it remained my favourite computer game. I think a Bard's Tale 4 would be a success, not only with nostalgics like my, but also with new players, if the game uses some of the recents technics but keeps the elements that have made its past success (the bard's tunes, the rich background...) : just look at the success of Might and Magic 6.

Thanks to Electronic Arts, much of my childhood was spent locked in my room fighting berserkers and wandering the dungeons of The Bard's Tale all while sweating from the heat of my C-64 1541 diskdrive. Ahhhh the memories.....
There is a nostalgic quality about the BT series. It would be in EA's best intrests to re-release all three games [In there original packaging!!] And provide their loyal BT fans WHEN (not if) they are going to release The Bard's Tale IV!!!

I have yet to find a crpg that compares to Bards Tale. As far as I'm concerned Bards Tale started it all. Like everyone else I spent countless hours playing and completing The Bards Tale games and have long awaited a sequel. For those at EA that think crpg is not where it's at, have it all wrong.
The demand and desire for crpg has never died. It's been there for the past ten years waiting for someone to put out a game with the same quality as The Bards Tale, which obviously know one can do. So please complete Bards IV or sign it over to Interplay. Bards fans are waiting.

hey there, I just wanted to be signed up for the petition thing. I love Bard's Tale, I used to play the second one on my Apple all the time, although it was a friends game, I was young, and didn't know what to do in the game, so I had very powerful characters, and I was just racing around to towns fighting guys, it was still a cool game though, I hope they decide to make the fourth one, I would love to play it.

Add me to your list, because I have found no RPG save for Ultima 4 and Fallout that could capture so much of my time and thought as the original Bards Tale. Fallout was too short, and Ultima's level progression never made me feel as powerful as when I had my twentieth level Monk dealing out justice. I would be first in line to purchase a release of Bard's Tale IV and experience all that fun again.

It's clear that CRPGs are entering a new golden age: it's sufficient to look at the incredible success of the two Fallouts, which brought back to us the old Wasteland atmosphere and playability in an up-to-date game, and the whole worldwide expectation for Baldur's Gate.
Anyone who would bring a new Bard's Tale title to the light, in the spirit of the original saga but with a modern implementation, would be richly rewarded.
And this is the word of one who has the 3 original titles for the C64 and still plays them on an emulator on his K6-2 :-)

I'd like to join the growing number of Bard's Tale fans that are petitioning to see the release of Bard's Tale 4.
Like others of the RPG genre who have dedicated countless hours to exploring and completing computer fantasy games , I started my adventure gaming experience with, in my opinion, the most prolific RPG fantasy game of all time, The Bard's Tale. Not only did it bring out the best in computer gaming (at that time), it brought about a completely new ideology in the way computer adventure games are designed today. And I for one am glad that I was able to be a part (albeit the end user) of the growth in the Bard's Tale popularity.
With the foothold that it has established in the computer RPG gaming world, I can't even begin to imagine why EA would not want to release a 4th episode to appease all of BT followers (which is probably significantly larger than EA can fathom). So I say (along with so many others) bring out Bard's Tale 4 and let the adventuring continue.
To people like Michael Cranford and Brian Fargo, I give my most sincere thanks for giving me the most unparalled gaming experiences of my life.

Apart from a very few, there were never any other RPG games to match Bard's Tale. I hate the more modern "real time" games, like Doom etc. Mainly because I don't want to have to think on my feet. I like to take my time deciding what these six people are going to do (Anyway I die too quickly in the Doom type games, like in the first 6 frames!).Yes I'd like to see a Bard's Tale 4, though better graphics might be nice!

I think it is high time that the Bard's Tale name was revised, and a new version released. When I went out and bought one of the Bard's Tale games, I knew that I was in for a lasting adventure. That just isn't true anymore. The new CRPGs are a lot of sparkle and flash, but are really lacking in the substance category. If the developers were willing to give us our money's worth by supplying a well thought out and long playing adventure, instead of beefing up the graphics and sound to the point where we need to go buy the latest hardware just to play the game, then they would find that the CRPG market is still alive and well. But not many people are willing to go shell out $60 (US) for a game that will only last them for 30 to 40 hours of play.
So please EA, release Bard's Tale IV and give us a game worthy of our time and money, or license the Bard's Tale title to Interplay, and let them make gaming the way it used to be.

Although I still love the old Bard's tale games, I would love to have an updated game. However, I wouldn't want to see the old games disappear, it would be great if the original three games were updated to include modern technology to recreate them as closely as possible. And as for a Bard's Tale IV, well I've got the money set aside and waiting, now all EA has to do is either make it or license it to Interplay.

Please, PLEASE complete Bard's Tale IV, and start working on
another! Even with the sophisticated graphics and engine of games such
as Might and Magic VI, I find myself ignoring it to play better
designed games such as Bard's Tale 1. And please don't make the
mistake other companies do, and "improve" on the engine on their
already successful sequels, it was perfect the way it was! I can't
imagine all the missed years of great gameplay Iv'e had over the last
11 or so years because there wasn't another sequel. Put it this way -
I would buy BT4 before buying Diablo 2. So, in closing, I would like
to e-sign the petition to finish BT4 (and start on another
one!)

For years I had vague memories of a wonderful game me and my older brother played on our first computer, an Apple IIe. It has taken a while for me to track it down, but I finally found my old apple and a box of disks...When I finally got everything working I was truly surprised to find I enjoyed playing the game as much, if not more than when I was young. That game was Bard's Tale. In looking on the net for more information on the game I have found that there is still quite a following for a game that was released almost 14 years ago. I intend to finish playing through Bard's Tale, and then destiny Knight, and Thief of Time. I can only hope that red tape won't continue to hold back the development and release of a part four to the series. thank you for your time.

There are actually several companies out that would be honoured to create and/or continue with Bard's Tale IV. Though I only know of Interplay, and a company I am part of that would be interested, I'm sure there are more companies. Interplay is currently working on a game that is much like the Bard's Tale series called Infinite Worlds. It is a multiplayer game with a different interface, yet you can still see Bard's Tale in it. The only difference between it and BT might be that you can only use one character instead of several. Electronic Arts will probably never release the rights for BT, they won't release the rights for Knights of Legend either. KoL was created by Todd Porter, yet its modules never saw the light of day (expansion packs) and it felt like an enhanced BT. When it comes down to it, you have companies that are part of the gaming community and want to see its growth (Interplay), and companies that care nothing for the gaming community, but want to exploit it. (EA)

Man, i'd love to see a BT4 be produced. I played BT2 and BT3 for close to 10 years on the old Commodore system, and my archmage character was stronger than the one that is drawn on the back of the game boxes themselves, he was roughly around level 475. I think that a Bards Tale 4 would just totally rule the market!

When i was young and owned a C64, I had BT and BT II and loved them. Sadly, one day i got rid of my C64, and bought an Amiga 500. The first game i bought when i had that Amiga 500 - Bard's Tale. The second - Bard's Tale II. Years ago i got rid of the Amiga, and recently bought a PC (yeuck). Going through a local department store which had software titles, i found the Ultimate RPG Pack or whatever it's called, with BT 1 2 3 and the Construction Kit. And i bought it. Bard's Tale is without a doubt one of the greatest computer games series ever created - it >stands with Impossible Mission and Pool Of Radiance as an example of what a computer game should be. I WANT BARDS TALE FOUR! I WANT BARDS TALE FOUR!

I find it a little hard to believe that, even with a petition showing obvious interest by a number of users, a company would put much effort into a game that hasn't really had any activity in so long... But, I might have a better idea (although this one might be even more far-fetched :). If EA were willing to release the license to the Bard's Tale name, and any other rights they might hold, to the GNU project, someone could organize an entire development team to create a FREE Bard's Tale IV. This would obviously be good for the user community, because the Bard's Tale IV would be released (and available, through cross-compilation, for ANY platform). It would be good for the GNU project and the "open-source movement" because it would provide a game of higher caliber than xtank, probably stimulating MUCH more interest in the related platforms. And, it could even be good for EA... They would be recreating interest in the Bard's Tale series (and could even start work on a Bard's Tale V, which, for all I care, they could release commercially... Obvious profit there), would be showing support for the GNU project, which seems to be a growing trend, and could dramatically increase their popularity (though it might hurt their relationship with Microsoft, which might be very bad for them). I, personally, would REALLY like to see this happen... I don't know how much I could contribute to the project personally (my career is software test, not software development), but if we could pull it off...... Anyway, it's a thought.

definitely add my name to the petition for a BT4! my little bro and i spent so much time playing the trilogy growing up (also on a C64)... and were happy to finally be able to own them on PC with the Ultimate RPG Archives... but there is definitely something lacking from our gaming library without a continuation of the Bard's Tale series... Fallout and now Fallout 2 have quenched our yearning to see a new Wasteland... now only one thing remains...
