Bard's Tale IV 2000 Petitions 280-441

I do think that the Bard's Tale series was the best game(s) ever released. For any RPG I have played since, I will always compare its features to the BT series. It had so many novel ideas, characters and weapons that no other game has really come close to challenging. Making Bard's Tale 4, while keeping some of the cool features from BT and adding flavour of current technology, would be a benefit to all.. well except us game players who would not get any sleep..

I would like to see a Bard's Tale IV. I've played the other three and really enjoyed them. If this game is ever made I hope it resembles the other three. I would like to see the same screen and interface. I didn't like the Bard's Tale Construction Set all that much. Keep it like the previous three. I would pay what the going price is for the top notch PC games.

Likes: the simplicity of the world and the combat system. Dislikes: duplicitous monsters, would like to see many distinctly different monsters populating the world. The randomness of encounters is too random as well; the frequency of monster encounters should be different in each 'region'. Would Like to See: 3D!!! ONLINE INTERACTION!!! More involved stories (emphasis on the plural)~ Price: somewhere around $49-79 Canadian would be reasonable.

Be it as it may, I own a powerful Pentium 3 computer that makes my new gaming experience as fluid as possible. I also own an ancient Commodore Amiga of which I have no use for other than playing BT3 at snail-like speed.

I remember BT1, as it was considerably better than BT2; which in turn was much better than BT3. Therefore, why would I be interested in BT4? Consider this: I own Diablo1, Wizardry3, Ultima 4, 6,7, and Doom1,2. I am of a sane mind and soul to admit to playing BT3 (the worse BT yet) more than all the other games I just listed (COMBINED).

Why do I play BT3 more than any other game? Maybe because it's the most complex, challenging, diverse experience I've ever encountered in the gaming world. Face it. It's not for the action-oriented player who is looking for instant gratification. The graphics are nothing extraordinary. The action is slow developing. The challenge of developing your characters is monumental. Yet why do all these petitions beg for the development of BT4?

There is NO other epic fantasy game that reaches the levels expected from its players. The Bard's Tale series managed to do so somehow. Perhaps it's the lack of constraint placed on ones imagination; as seen in Diablo or Ultima. Perhaps it's the replayability value offered through diverse character lineups and equipment. Perhaps it's the unlimited upgrades one's character may receive. Perhaps it's the complex storyline and imaginative game setting.

Regardless. I enjoyed this game far more than any other I've played. I will not point out the flaws since any tampering to this game may lead to the insulting arcade-like games of today. I look forward to BT4, regardless of Internet compatibility. The only compliment to the game I care to suggest is a book or movie. I enjoyed playing every game in the BT series far more than any other. I may be one in voice, but my interest is shared my countless others.

I have played hundreds and thousands of RPG's for as long as I can remember. The Bard's Tale series pretty much started it all for me. I remember when Bard's Tale II was released and how excited I was to play. I and about 10 of my closest friends played the game feverishly until we were almost to the end. Then, we all gathered at my house for an all-nighter in which we completed it while all huddled around my little Apple IIc. I would buy a Bard's Tale IV on te day it was released and take a couple of vacation days to camp in front of my computer. I would anticipate such a game more than I am anticipating Wizardry VIII. Do It. I would Love ya!

The Bards Tale (1) is my favorite computer game. Unfortunately, I have not been able to play it for some years because I can never get aold of it, but I saw the Archives link on your page and will promptly order it (whoo hoo!). In Bards Tale IV I would like to see a return to simplicity. Although I have never played Bards Tale III, I am sure it would have yeilded the same disappointing complexities that Bards Tale II yielded. I enjoyed Bards Tale I because, as a then young computer game lover, it was so easy to get started on. It was not overwhelming or anything like that. It was just a great game to play. This may have not been too helpful, but it's just what I think. I would also like to see Bards Tale IV have a party maximum of no more than six. Seven is definetly too many. Thank you for your time.

add my email address to the list, i would like to see some of the features of the game that were good, like if your character dies you lose it and the massive dungeons with multiple ways to get through. in depth character design, and maybe use the infinity engine. massive choice of classes and spells, maybe an equally massive selection of bard songs, with effects. up to date graphics and maybe a first person shooter enigne like quake or unreal.

Just This Morning While at work. Probably in a little dilerium after working a 12 hour shift, Out of nowhere i started humming this tune, and it soon turned into a whistle. for the life of me i could not figure out the name of it. And then on the way home it dawned on me, it was the Rhyme of Duetime, from Bards tale III. I thought damn its been close to 13 years since i transversed the lands of time and space after tarjan. so imeadiatly got online and did a search for bards tale. and to my surprise i found the old MS/DOS versions of the games. I was almost Brought to tears my childhood had revisited me. Many a Nights I sat Deprived of sleep and food. traveling the lands of Bards tale. and starting to today i plan to do it again. The funny thing is the graphics on the ms/dos version pale in comparison to the C64 version i played. but im willing to look beyond that to enjoy my childhood all over again. Many Rpg's have come since but none compair to the series that introduced me to the genre. I would be overjoyed to see another game in the series and i would sincerely pay top dollar for the game.

I've just rediscovered the original "Bard's Tale" series I loved playing on my antique Commodore 64 so many years ago as kid and finally realized why I don't buy most of the games that are released nowadays. They fired my imagination the way today's games just can't. An alternitive to the soulless, flashy, graphics-driven drivel on steroids that seems to have taken over the shelves at our local computer store? I'm in - where do I buy one?

I was a huge BT fan back in the 80's. After playing (and never quite beating) a friends copy of BT I, I went out and bought II. Never did beat it, but bought III as soon as it was released and was able to finish it. Everything about the games were revolutionary, from the engine to the original usage of quests. The Ultima series is my favorite all-time series, simply because it was allowed to continue. I have had the privilege of spending my money on Ultima since Ultima IV came out when I was 13. EA stole that privilege from me with their discontinuation of The Bard's Tale. I had no problem paying $30 per game back then, when I didn't have the money. I'd be happy to purchase new BT games, even at the current inflated going rate of software, because a) I now have the money, and b) because the first games were so very engrossing. Bring back The Bard's Tale!!

Hi,

I enjoy Bards Tale, I learn the Role Playing style from it. And it make me to lookup the dictionary and learn a lot of words and sentences from it.

I'm not a native english speaker but I like Bards Tale. Even now I'll power on the Apple Emulator and start the game, it's really great.

Too many 3D vector games but they didn't have the feeling of role play and lacks the classics feel like Bards Tale.

Thanks Michael Cranford for creating this excellent game series.

Hi, I´m Wolfgang Renner student of Business Administration in Germany.

I loved all three Bard´s Tale games, which i played on my Atari ST (Pt. 1) and on my PC (Pts. 2&3)

Back in the beginning 90s I was very disappointed when I read that EA had discontinued the then Bard´s Tale 4 Project which had really pretty graphics.

Now I´ve seen the great 3D-graphics and I want to have this game !!!! It must be done!!!

Greetings

Playing Eversmack now, seems like they ripped off quite a bit from the bards tale series. Would like to see Interplay kick eversmack in the nads by beating these guys at online multiplayer roleplaying. I think the Bards Tale series have enough pre existing background to do it better. Maybe make characters a bit more complicated and diverse than the original series. Capture that warm homey feeling you got ont he C-64 version when you entered the refugee camp. I want to be able to sit my character down next to the fire and hear the wood pop, and see the smoke curl. Avoid the sterile appearance of the 3D games out there and I will buy it.

I have to tell you, the best part of the previous BT line was the fact that you had to work you but off to get you characters tough enough to be able to proceed to the next areas. This next instalment has huge potential, I could even see this game online. The thing that amazes me is that I have been thinking this for a while... looks like I'm not the only one. If I can help or get involved please let me know

I'd like to see Bard's Tale IV as a game. I loved BT1 and still play BT3 over and over again, I recently bought the Ultimate RPG pack just for that purpose. The only downside to the IBM version of BT3 is that the spells are simply listed in order, rather than typing the code or at least listing them by spell class. Otherwise, keep it coming!

I will sign any petition to have another bards tale. I have looked for a role playing game like bards tale for seven years. I found the closest thing this past year called baldurs gate. It was fantastic but Bards tale still beats it.!! I cant believe what they could do with programing now with bards tale. I have thousands of hours on the bards tale games. Alll three but not the construction set because no one i know still has the game or it (the game ) stopped working. thats why i bought the set of 10 or 12 role playing games. I will write a letter to the people stated on the web page. If i can do anything else let me know.

I think a Bard's Tale IV would be great. I spent many a night playing in the Realm on my Commodore 128, and have also purchased the Bard's Tale Construction set for the IBM. I have been through many computer stores trying to find similar role playing games, but none of them seem to have the complexity and challenge of the Bard's Tale trilogy. A lot of the people who work at the Shoppes have played the game and likewise haven't found a suitable replacement.

My father and brother are hooked on the game as well, and I can guarantee that if a new version is released for PCs, we will all buy it and once again brag about the abilities of our Paladin.

My friend got the original Bard's Tale for his Commodore 64 one summer, and we spent the next three months indoors, killing dragons, using Fire Horns, and never quite finishing the game. I purchased the Ultimate Role Playing Archive, and there was such nostalgia playing through BT. I think BT4 would have the potential to be an amazing game, and I hope it gets made

I've been a roleplayer 18 years and been playing computer RPGs about 14 - and the Bards Tale series has a special place in my heart. It was one of the few series that kept my interest over time and which I completed.

I would love to see a Bards Tale IV - new computer RPGs lack the depth of that series. There are exceptions - Ultima being one - but Bards Tale deserves to once again ride high in the Pantheon of CRPGs!

What the world needs now is a game... a game that's great!

I remember going over to a computer nerd's house for a high school project in the 80's. He showed me his Commodore 64 with Bard's Tale Playing. I then began saving my money for a Commodore for the sole purpose of buying and playing that game. Once I got the game, I did not stop playing for months. I was now a nerd.

Ever since then, I have not found a game that could capture my attention like that one.

I would like to see the game put out similar to System Shock 2: A 3-d Immersive RPG.

I would buy it Instantly. Make it!!!!

I would love to see a Bards Tale 4. It was truly the game/series that started it all for me. BTCS was (and still is) a gem. The biggest problem continuing the series at this point in time would of course be that its style, approach, feel seem dated. Of course it would have to demonstrate huge progress over Thief of Fate in certain areas to be competitive at all and hopefully attract new gamers. As an old fan - I would beg that it in many ways remain true to its original concepts - task, not plot oriented - and yes, for the love of God, make me break out the graph paper! That was almost my favorite part - crawling through new territory at a snail's pace, sure to step on each square so as not to miss anything - dungeon levels that took several seperate visits to explore - not being sure if I was stong enough to go down the flight of stairs I just found... It all seems so much more difficult than what is on the market nowadays.

Like anyone signing this petition, money would be no object for this game! Also, my gaming experience goes back years - I am a true crpg veteran - since the '80s on my Apple IIe. Bards Tale stimulated my creative side, inspired me to learn to program myself, attempting to mock the granduer of this series.

I truly want to see another Bard's Tale game. I have been hoping for YEARS for another one. I still have my ragged copies of BT 1 - 3 and occasionally fire them up but am dismayed again and again by the ancient graphics =)

Seriously, I really loved the first 3 games. The stats based character development, cool items, neat spells and numerous dungeons were excellent. I really miss having a quality hack and slash RPG like that. The latest Might & Magic games are good but nothing measures up to the mighty Bard.

Over the years Iv bought and played countless crpg ,they are hands down the best games out on the market to day. I like the old first person view games the best. Its like you were going adventuring in real life. The suspense of not knowing what lays a head of you, should I turn around and go back to town to heal and turn in the exp. in for levels or do I risk going a little deeper and get the extra gold so I buy the plate mail. Iv have in joyed a lot of crpg over the years like I said. The golden box games made by SSI and TSR. But Bards Tale is best of them all. Iv ben talking to my brother a lot about how I wish some one would make a another BT game right were the BT3 left off. Now that you are minor gods your self you now have to save the heavens. But just a another BT. line of games would be grate to. I well buy BT4 if you make it witch I hope you do make one. It would be like back in the old days.....................Iam going to go deeper down the into the dungeon and get more exp. and find the dragons lair.

If You guys at EA don't plan to circumvent the single player crpg genre in the future altogether, the Bard's Tale seems to be Your only remaining franchise in this area after Axing single player Ultimas. Certainly, the game would have to be fundamentally different from the original series. However, I believe there was a unique Bard's Tale spirit, which must not be lost. This is a challenge in which EA could prove they were still capable of innovation. Of course, they could continue to leave that specialty to Interplay, if they don't feel up to the task, and sell them the rights.:)

I want to see TEXT fighting, and TEXT characters with COOL item/char screens. In a world devoid of good rpg and mindless fps, we could use Bard's Tale IV. I have played them all from the commodore64 to the PC. As with any good rpg, the story line, interface, and depth are what we look for. I have played them all including the Wizardry series and even Massive online ones such as Everquest, however they all lacked something...heart. They were corporate programs devoid of any real soul instilled by devoted programmers. All i ask is for you to put out this game and let the programmers have some creative freedoms and ingenuity. I would pay the same as i would for any game..roughly 40-60 dollars for a new Bard's Tale installment.

"The Bard's Tale" was my one of first computer game I have ever played - on my brother's C64. Unfortunately, my English was at this time too bad to understand the game. When I got a PC I searched for the BT-PC version for a long, long time. Last spring I found the Ultimate RPG Archives - with all of Bard's Tale. I played the game, starting in the evening, ending in the early morning. Part I, II and III are done. Now I really need part IV ;-) And here are my suggestions for part IV: - The charm of the first parts is not the graphic, but the story - today it's possible to create realistic graphics, but most games don't have this story. But as an active pen-&-paper-RPG-player I say: The story is the most important thing! - No Automap - it destroys the fun, esp. when there are those d*** teleports - The same world and structure please. One great test for the success of BT IV could be a "Bard's Tale 2000" or something like that. The three parts put together in one game, up-to-date graphic, perhaps music or something like that. Interplay/EA could give this task to the BT-fans, only helping in selling the product - if anyone from this company reads this: I know what 'business' and 'economic' means - I've visited a business school. But if you're not interested in renewing the game and others are - why not? Do you really sell this amount of the game? So there wouldn't be a real lost if you give it to the fans. And a trend in the software is open source - look at linux. A big company giving the right to modernize a real classicer to the fans gives you credits, good karma. Yours, Stefan Bartmann, a German BT-Fan.

(You have a great 'site!) HEY--I contacted Electronic Arts and a programmer there told me that EA wasn't interested in doing a remake of The Bard's Tale I, but said that maybe someone else would be interested in coding it! This was about a year ago, and I talk to EA in Vancouver Canada. I very much would like to see not only a Bard's Tale IV, but a remake of the original version, using Unreal's upcoming engine.

Greetings,
I've long since been an avid fan of the Bard's Tale trilogy. I've only now discovered that there is a push for another sequel. Please add me to your petition.

If I have a choice, I prefer to keep the game away from the 3D arena. I love the old text-based games with little/no animation. The game is quick and concise in this fashion. Turn-based combat as it was is preferred as well. (real-time combat is a terrible addition to most games).

I am from Mexico and I bought the Ultimate RPG to play Bards Tale. I play bards for 3 years in commodore 64 and I´m playing now on Pc. BT4 would be a terrific game to sell in my country and I beg to play with the new technology another great trilogy.

I would love to see Bard's Tale IV. I started playing the first one when I was about 9. I'm still currently playing the first one and without cheating have takin' his experience points to *********. So I've never quit playing. Since Bard's Tale is an older game the graphics weren't anything like today, so that about all the improvement it needs. If I were going to buy this game I'd probably pay $60 if it were as good as the first one.

I spent entirely too many hours in high school behind my cmputer playing Bard's Tale. My characters ended up about level 114. Regularly went to malefia just for the fun of it, they were pretty much unstoppable. Recently purchased the Ultimate RPG Archive for Bard's Tale and Wasteland. IT's been so much fun rediscovering it. I am playing 1 now, then i'll probably play #3. I pretty much hated 2, though i did finish it back then. Would love a new game, probably like Daggerfall meets Baldur's Gate meets Planescape Tormentor. Try to incorporate multiple members. I HATE all these new games where you have 1 member and a bunch of NPC's.

The Bards tale is the first CRPG that I ever played and I still have fond memories of it, I had it on both the C64 and the Amiga (Computers that apparently never took off in America but did rather well in Europe). So much so that I went out and bought the RPG Archives specifically to play them again when I upgraded to PC. If you brought out a BTIV I would buy it. Provided that it was released over here. Natch. And didn't cost more than £20-£30.

Bard's Tale holds a special place in gaming for me as it was my introductory to fantasy role playing games on the computer. I would love to see Bard's Tale IV created, even in the same style as the older titles, but with updated graphics and a new 3d engine. The amount of spells and creatures were astounding in all 3 Bard's Tale games. So put my name on the petition, I want Bard's Tale IV!

Not only was I to finish it, but in my high school where EVERYBODY played it, I was the very first one to critically hit Tarjan with my rogue squaring up to him all the 90' feet unnoticed. It all happened in 1990, but after ten years I still remember the feeling of triumph.... Why can't I repeat all the fun ??? Please, EA allow this to happen again...

I would like to see a Bard's Tale IV. I played Bard's Tale I,II, and III and really enjoyed them. I have not found a game that has compared to the BT series. There are too many games out today that are way too complex and graphic intensive. I would like for EA to make a Bard's Tale IV and keep it along the same lines as BT I,II, and III with text fighting and simple role play.

I'd like to place my name on the petition for the release of the Bard's Tale name. I spent coutless hours playing the first 2 games, having completed them numerous times, and would doubtless spend even more on a sequel. I'm sure that a game produced today would easily be able to reach the scale and granduer that the Might and Magic series has achieved. Considering the outpouring of support for this petition, it comes as a great shock to me that EA would think a future Bard's Tale installment unprofitable. The fact that Bard's Tale 4 would be the return of one of the most popular rpg's in history would make an ingenious marketing strategy.

During its time, Bard's Tale was THE game. And, even now, I find myself looking for games like it. Games that provide more opportunity to use a thought process to complete. Unfortunately, I have noticed that EA has not made any of their earlier games accessible. This is a shame. EA, please give up the rights to the game or create it yourselves.

The Bard's Tale series was the most revolutionary RPG of it's time. It has set the pace for many games to come, and not continuing with the tradition would be an unfortunate mistake. Bard's Tale 4 must not be held back or thrown away, there are simply too many fans who would love to see it.

As a fanatical player of Bard's Tale (I still own a spectrum with the original version that I bought in the late 80's) and I also own all three (including the Construction Kit) episodes of Bard's Tale on the PC... I would just LOVE a fourth copy of Bard's Tale to be released... How about Bard's Tale IV - The Revenge of Mangar ???

The original gameplay design would be perfect... but how about a special edition release... Bard's Tale 3D?

I can picture it as a complete game encompassing BT 1,2 and 3 but in glorious three-dimensional graphics, using OpenGL and fully supporting the 3DFX cards.... (nice!)

Maybe I'm crazy... but Bard's Tale ROCKS... Release Bard's Tale 4... The public deserve it...

I've played many RPG games, including Ultima, most of the SSI RPG's (including the one of Buck Rogers), and Baulder's Gate. Of them all, I still love Bard's Tale. Most other RPG's don't have the depth of Bard's Tale. While the graphics were ok for the time, it was the puzzles that kept the game interesting. I remember getting stuck on a map, and I went to get a drink while I mumbled over the clue. My grandmother was setting there and actually gave me the answer. No other game I have played, incorporated fighting, magic, story line and puzzles quite like it. Most now go to far into the fighting, some just don't have the puzzles, other's a lack of story line to keep the game moving. At today's prices, I would gladly pay $60 for a new Bard's Tale, if they could keep the elements that made the Bard's Tale what it was.

I would love to see Bards Tale IV come about the only game that is better then Zelda for the Nintendo System. And if marketed through somebody like Playstation on there PS2 with some upgrade grapfics it would be a great come back for the game. But not to many changes should be made, because for every new Zelda game that has came out I have bought a new system just to play that game. But the 3rd verision of Zelda I beleive was a failure because to much of it was change. And further more compare the 3rd with the 1st and then the last one released for the N64 and you can tell your self wich one was more profitable. So do what takes to get those rights for the game but do not change it to much.

It's been a long time since i've even seen one of the old Bard's Tale games, but I was definitely a huge fan of the first one. I feel that with the new advances in RPG's and the recent trend of remaking old games that we all remember, makes it the right time for a new Bard's Tale game. I would like to see the same kind of feel that the old games had, while utilizing the new 3D and virtual technology that most of the new games they will be competing against will have. If it's going to be done, it should be done right. Which means the backing of Electronic Arts or maybe even talking Squaresoft into bying the rights from them. I know that EA has their hands full with the sports games, so Square would be the best answer, unless EA decided that they wanted to try and compete in a genre that is currently being dominated by other companies.

I would like to see a bards tale 4 with the apple 2e engine. the ibm engine wasn't as good as the apples. I loved the way you could change the scroll speed a real plus when fighting 400 beserkers. I would prefer it if they stuck to the interface they used in the past instead of changing it to a baulders gate clone. and I don't think RPG's should come with cheat codes, it just lets others abuse the game and I don't like to see them on the internet for multiplayer games.

I have not played any of the Bard's Tale games, largely because they are literally IMPOSSIBLE to buy, but from EA's equal success with and subsequent neglect of the Sentinel Worlds "series" (actually just part I, Future Magic), I can imagine what they could be capible of. With the singularly poor variety of RPG's these days, which seem to have been hacked down to whatever Squaresoft, Enix, and to a lesser extent Blizzard decide to throw in our faces, a good RPG of any sort would clean up. EA, of course, thinks that everyone wants sports games. If they made a Bard's Tale IV or Sentinel Worlds II, they might learn something to the contrary. If this was released for the N64 or GameCube, they might at the same time (not that they would care) supply a decent RPG for a non-Sony console and become a rival which Squaresoft would have to actually deal with, which would mean that, if nothing else, at least the Final Fantasy series would return to the "good old days" of, say, FF4. The RPG market is too small these days, with a near-monopoly by the PlayStation, and EA or Interplay (if it licensed Bard's Tale for a fourth game) could do something about that. However, with the absence of genuine SF RPGs (not including FF7-8) from the market, I think that Sentinel Worlds should be given equal priority with Bard's Tale, and both should replace EA sports games. After all, EA sports stuff sells so poorly it isn't even possible to boycott it! David Kimball

i remeber palying the Bard's TAle when i was a kid....and no other game has been quite like it. I'm sure there are many people who feel the same way. What i really like about the Bard's Tale is the fact that you create the characters...they don't already have a set stroryline. You create the storyline through your actions. I would be willing to pay to buy this game...i would actuasllly be willing to pay for a re-realese of the original Bard's Tale series, one with enhanced graphics and what not. I think Ineterplay is making a big mistake. Dan

I miss well-designed (even 2D god forbid..) RPGs. Games that have an actual storyline designed for a single player to explore and discover. Automagically generated gorgeous multi-player online 3D slash fests can begin to feel like they are all makeup and flash powder, with no real soul. I think the developers tend to underestimate the market that still

exists for games like Bard's Tale. I would gladly pay for another installment that could use the new technology, yet still

live up to its heritage.

I would like to send out another clarion call of urgency to Electronic Arts to seize their ineffable hiding of the mighty Bard's Tale in their vault - and ot hand out the rights to someone like Interplay.

I spent many many moons of my childhood in the dungeons of this trilogy and desire to do so again very soon! It took me approximately three years to even finish the first Bard's Tale on my C64 - which says something for its depth and mystery which many RPG's these days lack! The dungeon crawling, the fun mapping, the wonderment of whether my party was strong enough for the next dungeon, the odd clues, the almost ethereal magic mouths and riddles. There are so many virtues of this series that one could never cease writing!

So please, Electronic Arts - don't be anally retentive, don't be greedy - give the RPG world what it terribly needs. Bard's Tale FOUR!

Regards from A Bard's Tale Fanatic, Rob. Bailey

P.S: Perhaps Richard Garriot would be interested...if he is, what a combination the mind of Ultima and the allure of Bard's Tale!

I would be willing to pay $60 to $70 for Bard's Tale IV. I would also pay the same for I, II,III if I could run them on my present computer. I played these games for several years on my Commodore 64, until my C64 finally died and I could find nowhere in the Boston area to fix it.

Now the only game I can find that has clear graphics is Sim city 2000. I'm a 60 year old woman and am very disppointed at the deterioration of computer gaming to level of development of adolescent males.

I have never forgotten the wonder and excitement that the sight of the Bard playing his lute on my old C64 in the first Bard's Tale brought. I definitely think that the story of the Bard's tale needs to be redone in a modern manner, one representative of the newer technology while still holding to the excellent storytelling that captured the hearts of tens of thousands. It is a testament to the game and it's sequels that a thriving web-ring is out here 8, 9, 10 years after the original hit the stores.

Make Bard's Tale IV. The fantasy genre fans always respond when an effort that is honest to the original is presented. Look at the Might and Magic series. It was started back when the C64 was out and is still going strong.

I am an avid gamer, I was on the last few test groups for Blizzard, and I think you could make a killing on a BT4 if you did it in an 'Everquest' format. Amazing Series of games. There has been no equal in depth, replayability, or the fun of wandering round death snares in panic. A believable storyline, and a lot of dying. My only criticism was the repetitive combat system with regards to advancement, it detracted from the pace of the game a little. Some people I know believed it positively mind-numbing. But they weren't much into exploration...only winning.

Ironegde, Gor, Cornelieus, Tempest, Fury and Scry..(and a nice Greater Demon, Thank you). Supplemented only by Fade in BT3. Zabra's Party.

definatly sign me up! I loved the series. Bard's tale I was probably my favorite followed by III. I loved the games they kept me immersed for months! Some of my favorite things were; Bard songs, the many magic items, the variety of monsters and the many classes of spell casters. BTIII improved on alot with the theiving skills ect...

I liked II alot also there was only one thing that bugged me about II, the monsters were really given strange stats. In BTI or III when my characters got to high levels I'd be able to attack first, in BTII even wimpy kobolds would attack before my 110th level characters. It got annoying to get in a battle with 30-60 of em and have to wait til the end before my spells would blast em.

The dungeon designs were cool also in all 3 games. Dragon Wars was a great game too. I think that Bard's tale 4 should incorporate some elements from that game. I don't think they should sacrifice the playsystem for graphics. The rpg crowd wants a fun game, witness Ultima 9, they thought they could lure the quake crowd in with the graphics and they wrecked the game by sacrificing the story and fun-ness of it.

Both series bring fond memories especially the music and story lines of bards tale. It is an experience which brought me to even look for any information on any upcoming projects for a new Bards Tale. Any info would be grately appreciated if there were a project ever to occur in the

My first steps in a RPG at all and towards serious gaming I did in the streets of Skara Brae. While I nowadays feel somehow puzzled how a game with such a clunky interface and lackluster graphics could so completely capture my imagination as well as my leisure time back then, the experience I enjoyed playing The Bard's Tale on my trusty C-64 was probably the original reason I decided to dedicate my life to electonic gaming and virtual realities. Even now as an editor for a gaming mag, pre- and reviewing crpgs almost daily, I find myself (certainly heavilly clouded by nostalgia) yearning for the unique atmosphere the music and three-point-animations of Bard's Tale possessed. While it would certainly be a receipe for disaster to simply update the simplistic gameplay of the original with state-of-the-art bells&whistles, there is enough material and original content to be found within the trilogy to allow a contination of the series. Even with just the name and a promise to stay true to the spirit and mythology of the original, I am convinced the project would not only immidiately generate a sizeable community of dedicated long-time fans, but would also receive very much attention by the gaming press consisting mainly of veterans who will remember its predecessers fondly. Good marketing alone could make Bard's Tale 4 a success, but together with a innovative and big-budgetted game this could easily become a contender for 'most awaited game' in the RPG genre. I can understand that the current holder of the license, Electronic Arts, finds such a project not anymore viable within its policies for making games. BT4 could probably not be made appealing for the broad 'casual gamer' audience, and if it could, the hardcore gamers would likely not forgive such a move. Neither at the moment nor in the forseeable future would BT4 fit in EAs portfolio, not even as an online game, as they already possess a very strong franchise in the Ultima series.

Thus I think it should be Interplay buying back the license. Having regained their reputation as RPG specialists, it ought to be about time for them to reclaim their own legacy in this genre's history (as opposed to resting on the laurels of Bioware's Baldur's Gate and TSR's D&D). Unfortunately, the only thing that might convince EA to sell a potential hit license to a competitor would be A LOT of money, and that is exactly what Interplay lacks. Nevertheless, I'd probably like to see Dragon Wars 2 just as much as BT4 :) Good luck for that petition!

I as the hugest Bards Tale fan of all time! I played the original and was astounded by the level of detail. It took me a year to beat that game and I loved every minute of it. I ws so spoiled by that game. It set the standard for games at that time and i couldn't see playing anything else. I used to have dreams on how to get through a trap or piece a puzzle together. Please make a new one!

I'd love to be able to play one again. Also, those clue books were damned nifty. In any event as long as the price is under $60 I'll buy the sucker... (just please, no code wheel!) :-)

Just adding my name to the petition. Bardstale games were the absolute best adventure games ever made. The format of seven characters and being able to control them as you did was amazing. A fourth game would be awesome.
