I recently saw your Bard's Tale page -- got BT for my son (who's 14) and a real gamer. He loves it! I had originally played the Apple II version many years ago and I'm happy to see that the essential playability of the game persists.

I have found nothing that could compare to the Bard's Tale Trilogy. If a 4th did come out it would be one of the only games that I would be willing to pay full price for... I know nothing would comp are to the originals... But an updated version with new 3d graphics, as long as it is a text based stroy line would be great... I remember spending hours on my C64 playing BT1 and the same on my 3/486 dos platforms for BT2 and BT3... So hopefully it happnes, and if it does I will be the first in line to buy.

I want it and I want it bad. Yesterday I was thinking how cool BT4 was. You could fights rows of hundreds of creature and your team would kill dozens at a time litterally!
If my memory is correct monk were the best class with low armour and lots of attacks each turn. One thing I hated was the way some levels were designed. You would get teleported or turned 90 degrees and no way to map those levels. You never knew how to escape. That sucked. I didnt like when the lights would turn off. You couldnt see crap and would end up in a huge fight, lost in the maze. The maps kinda sucked at high levels. Except that one if the best game serie I ever played.
I would pay 45 bucks for a new version.

I loved bards tale when it came out on my C64 and I bought the Ultimate RPG Archives years later so I could play it again. What I noticed (and missed) between the C64 version and the IBM version was that on the C64 version each different song your bard played had a different tune. I would love for that to happen in Bard's Tale IV

It is absurd that Interplay and EA can't get their collective industry as one of the most defining games of its time back on the shelves for people to play in a whole new gaming engine and design. Times have changed but one thing that will always stay the same is that you always go with what worked before and Bard's Tale WORKED!

Bard's Tale was one of my first computer games ever, and I always enjoyed the densitiy of the atmosphere. Bard's Tale IV would be a sure buy. As for the price, I would pay anything like to a normal new release game.

Liked: Party format, turn-based, roleplaying game.
Disliked: BTiii user interface; graphics somehow worse than previous two games. Pictures appeared "dirty" (not in an "adult" sense)
Pay: for a reliable port of BT1 & 2 still about $15 (I'm in the UK so about GBP10.00 in fact) for BT3 with better graphics an additional $5-10 if included with above.
For a complete, new, BT4 game, probably $30-$40.

I had fun with BT 1, 2, 3 and even bought Dragon Wars. I started at the age of 10, finding the game very complex and hard, but now, a few years later (aged 27 now) i stumbled upon your site and felt time warped back to the good old days. Played on several plattforms and currently trying to run it on my SGI on IRIX (with an emulator for C64, MSDOS or AMIGA).

I loved all the BT series games as a kid, I had played them on my first apple IIe.
I would loveto see a 4th game, but more than that I would love to see a collectors series of all 4 games redone with today's computing capabilities.
I would pay $25 a piece, and $100 for an entire set redone.

The BT series is the finest to this day. Even now, it surpasses all other RPG games in existence. I lose sleep over the thought of having Bard's Tale IV, and am willing to pay as much as 100 dollars for a copy of it. To EA: Please release it. There are many fools among myself who would give almost anything to have it.

I've played Bard's Tale since 1989 when I saw it the first time. Wonderful! I've been waiting for Bard's Tale IV for years. For the new release, I hope they will implement a new GUI like Eye of the Beholder and better, faster, high resolution graphics, random encounters, and random storylines. A Bard's Tale IV Construction Set would be great as well. We need more races, classes, and skills. No ninja, spells for paladins, multi-class, mages can use long swords (see 'gandalf the gray'), and much mor

I heard a rumour a few months back about a possible BT4, (along the same lines as the Street Rod remake/sequel...) To which my immediate reaction was... COOL!!! I love those games...
I still have my C-64, am am the proud owner of a Non-Pirate "Bard's Tale Trilogy Pak" (which was damn hard to find in the mid nineties, and quite expensive even in comparison to current game game prices)
I bought the 'proper' versions of the games because even though I already had all three, they were pirate copies (as was the norm with C64 games). These games were excellent, and even though it was years after the games release, they were worth it.
I still play the Bards Tale games from time to time, and would love to see a new one.

Im 30 now, and still vividly remember in the 80's when me and my friend went to this guy who had a apple, and he was playing bards tale, he had maps lying all around his room and was boasting about how his characters were of a real high level. I remember playing the first version on my 286, but i didnt have the codes, nevertheless i still played the opening level to death. Now in 2003 i found a site that had all three versions for a free download, the site is www.abandonkeep.com. Now im busy playing bards tale 3,Its like being in a time warp, i just keep thinking of the next level. It would be great to have all 3 versions redone, and to take out the irritating darkness squares. Bardstale redefined the rpg genre and i really hope the 4th installment becomes a reality. I bought myself graph paper for the mammoth task of mapping. lol Ive been sucked back in.

I loved the Bard's Tale, I played the tree of them until exhaustion, My brothers would just sit and get bored to death watching me play by just reading the messages, but Man!, the story was worth all the endless messages! I loved the diversity of weapons, fighting styles, monsters and quests! as I remember The Bard's tale I had the first animated high reolution graphics of it's time, special and unique items as well as unique monsters and characters! It would be a Treat to see this game remade, would love to see Skara Bree in 3d!
I would pay top $$$ for a good game, especially if it has a Good story and keeps the formula of many different dungeons and hordes of different monsters..

I would love it if we could get another BT game out on the market. I am now just hearing of BT II & III. If there is fans out there... don't disappoint them... some people only play games like that of BTs' qualifactions. I know for a fact that D&D players play this game... because it is a way to play the game itself... without having to play with others, although would rather... but it is their way of filling that void. I know i'm not making sense... maybe it's lack of sleep from being enrolled in the first.... which has had my rivited to my couch for the past 3 weeks... since i finally found the game again... or it's just from the thought that a classic game like this will not be carried on to future generations... a game that should be shared with all... not just the older people. I would like to thank you for your time... and hope to see a fourth on the market.

My favourite non-realtime RPG on the Amiga. I played it again short time ago on an emulator. I am an EA-Fan since the beginning (MULE etc.). EA, let the Interplay-guys make a new Bard's Tale. I think, they collected a lot of good ideas over the last 15 years.

I was too young to really be able to get into the Bard's Tale 1 or 2, but I finally got into the series with the third installment. I was truly ecstatic when I finally won! Ever since then, BT3 has been my favorite game, even up to this day, when our newest games make it look like a board game. I would LOVE to see someone create Bard's Tale IV, and if it happens, I will be on the waiting list to purchase it. PLEASE MAKE THIS GAME!!!

I think the Bard's Tale series is as inventive and fantastic as the Ultima series. I also think that a new Bard's Tale, Bard's Tale IV, should be made with today's graphics capabilites, or at least the first three episodes should be remade with modern graphics capabilities. Ultimas 1-9 are being remade: why not Bard's Tale 1-3?

Hi people, just to say that i started bards tale on the C64. what attracted me was the idea of character generation, adventurers going forth into the unknown. Since then ive been addicted to RPG games, but none quite fulfills than the bards tale trilogy. Someone should pick the game up and release bards tale4 with current technology they could make it a masterpiece. it would be interesting to see how much of the original would appear in a new one since turned based stuff seems sort of defunct now ( baldurs gate etc was the only decent turn based stuff now ) & alot of RPGs are online. I hope that whoever has a chance to make the new game would have no creative restrictions ( money :-( ) so they could create a masterpiece that would live up to its name.

This game will come back - sooner or later! I played it - with some interruptions - for almost 2 years (From 1988-1990) and before or after that, there was no game, that I loved as much as & quot;Bard´s Tale" (part 3)! So it would be great, to have "bard´s tale" back on my PC! Greetings from germany!

The Bard's Tale series was my introduction to computer gaming (Commodore 64), roleplaying games and the bigger world of fantasy. So it holds a very dear place in my heart and memory! At the time, I was in fourth grade (10 years old) and played the Bard's Tale with my dad, mapping everything out on graph paper with meticulous symbols and labels. We moved on to BTII and BTIII and we also played Dragon Wars. One thing I really loved about the Bard's Tale series were the inventive and creative puzzles, riddles, traps, tricks, etc. that were put into the game. From the magic mouths to the spinner and darkness squares, the "wrap around" maps, etc. I loved that part of the game and wish more fantasy games today would incorporate traps and puzzles into their dungeons. I remember hearing about a BT IV in a gaming magazine years ago - they had a brief blurb in a section on games that never saw the light of day. I was disheartened to say the least. I was never into Zork, Wizardry or Ultima, but loved Bard's Tale. I think it would definitely compete as long as you get a solid team together than can capture the spirit of the originals. I hope someone out there will take a chance on a "golden classic" of the genre and bring Bard's Tale back to life for those 10 year olds of today.

I use to LOVE playing the Bard tale games. I got it on the second computer that I owned, had a 5 meg hard drive. The "good ole days" of computing. Anyway, I use to spend hours mapping and solving the game and would LOVE to see another one (maybe several more) come out. I, for one, would be MORE than willing to purchase it!

Not only would I thoroughly enjoy a Bard's Tale IV, but I would love to see I-III redone with enhanced graphics. Mind you, this does not mean, "Turn BT into another DOOM." However, leave the console the same, the game play the same, but improve the window graphics. The PC version is pale next to the Commodore and Amiga versions. Bring back Bard's Tale with version IV and revisit I-III.

I loved the first 3 Bards Tales they are largely responsible for getting me into RPG's so please please please use the wondefull 3D engines that are out there and make Bards tale IV. By the way if you call your character Hail then every bartender calls him by name evertime you enter a bar.

If not a BT4, How about a BT Trilogy Redux? Minimum Requirements; P4 2.4 Ghz or AMD equivalant, 1 GB RAM, Radeon 9000 or better, DVD ROM, 3 GB Free HD Space. You can all just guestimate the system recommendations.

How fondly do I remember the Bard's Tale series? Well, let's just say that my childhood would have been DISMAL without it :). I can't remember HOW many times I've asked my gaming friends about a new, re-vamped version, but I'm SURE that us old gamers would help the noob gamers to understand the magnitude, nay the GLORY of the BT series, and if nothing else, shame them into purchasing a copy. I know they wouldn't regret it, and let's just say that it would warm my heart beyond all imagining.

I and my friend Steve played BT I, II, and III for untold hours. When we reached the final level of Mangar's Tower in BT I, we were each at home, on the phone with each other so we could be at Mangar at the same time on separate computers...we spent so much time in school trying to decipher riddles from BT II, it was ridiculous. BT III had one of the best endings ever...what other games do you get to become the GODS themselves? My only request for BT IV is that the storyline be the most important part. Graphics don't seem to matter all that much to really hardcore players, just the playability. Make a pretty game, so what. Make a fun game, it will live forever...and rake in $$$!

The whole series made me what I'm today... A hardcore veteran "gamer"! The inspiration was endless! The depth, and originality of the series doesn't exist today. Everything is more skill based, or # of kills today. With the speed, and power of todays PC's, a team of developers can create a truly spectacular game that would be highly anticipated by veteran gamers, and those new to the genre.

Wow. I didn't know anyone knew of the game still... I was looking around for good new RPG games and was remembering how fun it was to play the last Bard's Tale on my Atari 1040ST back in the days... I remember how the Monk in that game could get so indredibly powerful in his upper levels. So I did a search on Bard's Tale and voilà. I'm here signing the petition. I would definitely buy Bard's Tale 4 if it were to come out... Just think of how great it would be with today's bells and whistles... I would love to play another Bard's Tale. I'm 32 and have been playing Dungeons and Dragons since I'm 10. I've played many role playing games for the computer. I used sit downstairs in my m other's house and play for hours at a time with her screaming at me to stop, it was great. I'm currently playing Icewind Dale II. I've played all the games from Black Isle.... Baldur's Gate I and II and Icewind Dale I, and many others. I really have to say I liked the Bard's Tale the best. Make game 4 and 5 and ...... you'll make money.

A new, mordenised version of Bards Tale would be great! Mordenised but same charactors, maybe a new system of moving around ie not just n s e w , alot more intense visuals. Maybe after enter ing moves during a combat round, the option of playing that round or the whole fight as a little movie! Some of the puzzles where a pain in the arse. Some active npc's would be cool. Just bigger! And Better!

The Bard's Tale series of games got me through high school. Bard's Tale 3 I remember in particular because my friend and I would play it every weekend to the wee hours of the morning, while jamming to Metallica's And Justice... album. I will have those memories til the day I die. The games were great and I really think that a fourth game would be a great idea and that with today's technology could be one of the best games out there, especially with all the people that remember the games. I would pay any amount to see a part 4 to the series.

Reading through the comments for 2003, one guy in particular has got it right. It is less about the graphics and more about the story and the atmosphere that is generated by these games. I still remember buying my first copy of BT I for the Amiga. It looked great, the story was fantastic, the world that was created for the characters was one you just wanted to get into. From there BT II and BT III were just an amazing series. Now, well into my 30's, I have started playing all three again. I say - let's get BT IV into development. As for snail mail addresses, look them up online. I'd definitely pay for this game. This would be an amazing journey back into the BT world. Don't waste your time on cool third person 3-D rendered images and real time combat. Stick to the simple gameplay with a rich story and interesting puzzles. Put in silly messages like "There is something strange going on" that don't really mean anything, but add to the mystery for the party. Invite us back to the BT world. Many more people than just those who have found this site will be ready to take up their weapons and go on the journey again.

I have enjoyed the bard's tales series for a long time. The story was well written and would like to see another one written. But the graphics have come a long way since then and If there was a decision to make another Bard's Tale I would gladly pay any where in the range of 39 to 50 dollars for a well written game. I have been writing a movie for about seven months and get well recieved reviews thus far. But as far as my gaming exerience i have played almost every games thus far and really don't find any good stories available as of yet.

The Bard's Tale series was without a doubt the best roleplaying saga to come out of the 1980's. We would all love to see a fourth Bard's Tale game. I would also like to say that if a new Bard's Tale game does come out in the near future it would be a nice touch if the game sticks with the combat style of the original trilogy.

Bards Tale got me involved in role playing and I would love to see another in the series. I'm a "fifty yr old kid" involved as a Scout and Guide leader. Because of the role pla ying you involved me in I developed games, in real time, for Guides and Scouts which helped them pass their badges. By giving extra "powers" to younger members(and those with disabilities) and by making older age groups more vulnerable to the youngsters, through hit points and armour ratings, we were able to give some groups a fantastic experience they will never forget. You don't know what you started. You've got to keep going.

The Bard's Tale is one of the classic RPG series. Wizadry is still kicking, Ultima is still going on, there are still gamers out there who loved the RPG's of 'old' and who would pay to play them again. With the bulk of this genre hard to obtain today, don't let piracy or emulation be the only ways that we can get our fixes.

Dear Bard's Tale fans, I hope your wishes for Bard's Tale 4 comes true. As for myself, being a Game Designer is lonely. Long hours and such. But it's all for, what you love doing. Basically turning that hobby or 2 into a lifetime profession. With no regrets of staying up long stretchs of time on your computer, programming a game that you know will be a classic one day. Right now, I am programming a First Person View CRPG, in my spare-time. As for the company well, I run a PC firm for my full-time job. So I can afford to do what I want, when I want. Anyways, I hope EA or Interplay makes your wishes come true. Have to go. Hope to hear from you guys.

I am 33 years old, and "The Bard's Tale" was the very first RPG/Adventure game I ever played. It was on my Commodore 64 in 1986. It kept me inside most of that Summer and awake on weekends during HS. It was very addicting, as Dungeon Crawlers usually are, but it started an era with me that has yet to end........the era of CRPGs. I would love to see a Bard's Tale 4.

I loved the Bard's Tale series! From the first time I played "The Bard's Tale" on the Commodore 64, to endless hours of enjoyment from the rest of the trilogy on the PC, it has been my all-time favorite RPG series. Please consider making a 4th version, as the Bard's Tale is one of the games upon which many of us gained our gaming foundations. If you don't think there'd be a market for it, then look again at ALL the phenomenal advances made in computer gaming and re-think that idea. There are LOADS of ideas, advances, and techniques to MAKE us interested!!

The Bard's Tale series is still close to my heart, after having experienced it many years ago when I was 17. Today's RPG's are hit and miss, and very few games in the the history of gaming ever really leave a mark as much as the BT series has. If there were ever to be a Bard's Tale 4, or a new Bard's Tale according to the new information about inXile's upcoming game, I would hope that the developers continue the BT tradition with a great story, not just try to copy other RPG formats already out there "just because" that's the current "style" of game. When there's nothing new/good to play out there I always go back to the "oldies but goodies" and pull out an old favorite like Bard's Tale.

And i would eschew 3d entirely, anyone remember how pool of radiance was treated? Gimme a new bards tale with a deeper storyline, character development, and a refurbished top-down infinity engine. A Bard's Tale IV would be awesome, especially with the technology we have today as compared to 1987. EA should loan the rights to interested parties, while ensuring they're collecting royalties. If EA doesn't want to make a Bard's Tale IV, dedicated fans will do it for them. I know I will.

I LOVED the old Bard's tale gamers! There was nothing else first person to speak of at the time. I miss the bars and the music. I hope someone makes another with the technology we have nowadays. It would be cool to port the old games to an online java version as well. Good Luck!

The old RPG`s were the best for all times ... . MANY of The modern games are WASTE . Why do the game programmers not make games like SOA ( Spirit of Adventure ) , Bards Tale , Wizardry, Might and Magic ... and so on .... I would pay the full prize for real MODERN VERSIONS of these GAMES . Ego - Shooter are good for a short Time, but not long .... people who play it very long ...hu, hu ... i don't know .... Online RPG - Games are not bad ... but people with many, many time are unbeatable in these games ... and if you are employed then you don'T have this time. I think there must be more people like me, but the gaming industry is programming more and more WASTE ... I remember the old time with games like Wizardry 7 and so on ... Are these Times over ?? ... I hope not !!!! A GAMING Fan of the OLD Times !!!! Bye T.

I would knock down anyone in my way just to get my hands on a copy of "The Bard's Tale IV". I remember way back when....well not that long ago, but it has been way too long, needless to say the fourth installment is LONG over-due. Am I making my point?! GET TO WORK AND BRING THIS THING TO LIFE!!!

The Bard's Tale series was awsome. The CPU world is crying out for a decent, deep, difficult RPG. Get into it. We don't care about amazingly stupefying graphics - let's get gaming back to it's roots - playability, lastability and hookability. Al

I think a continuation of this series is just what the stagnant gaming scene needs. Other than the release of NWN, games have had boring, uninventive content. Bring back the series and show them how it's done!

I played the Bard's Tale games way back in the mid 80's. The first one was a cast of from my daughter. I bought the others myself. They were my first experience with adventure/logic computer games and I loved them. Yes, I want to see a Bard's Tale IV!

You know, this game sold like hot cakes on the basis of imaginative plot line, a unique compination of text adventure (riddle play) and traditional rpg format. As long as you don't lose sight of these elements in an effort to update the graphics, it could be an incredible game. Don't lose sight of the role of music either. The idea of a magic based on music is highly unexplored. (I actually think Loom did the best with that, but Bards Tale could do better)

I thoroughly enjoyed the 3 original games. I spent much time playing them and they hold fond memories. I remember them on both the C-64, the Apple 128 and the IBM as well. I look forward to someone taking up the torch and carrying on a fine tradition, in form or spirit, of the Bard's Tale world. Here's to our childhood CRPGs!

I definetly would by it and also any remake of the first three. Im now playing it again :-) But, saddly EA had the same politics with ultima. The seem only interrested in some easy money games today. I remember a great time of games and there companys like early microprose with a big manuals and perfect games, like origin with all godies...... Your sad companion

Long live the greatest RPG that spurred computer gaming and imagination. Wizardry showed us the path, but Bard's Tale painted the scenery. Tiltowait was just an ends to a means, not magic dressed in creativity. The Bard's song soothes the soul, cultivates camaraderie, and animates the adventure. Bring back my childhood, bring back Skara Brae.

I particularly enjoyed the darkness and depth of the Bards Tale 3 experience. Inspite of the fact it was mostly a text adventure, it really allowed a lot of imagination and immersion. I would love a similar game, not a remake, but BT4, to have the dedication to story, puzzles, and challenge that BT3 had. With the computing and graphics power that todays computers have, combined with the relative ease of implementing the Bards Tale system versus a Dungeons and Dragons system, much more time could be given to storyline, which is what most games miss today. The original BT games played like a book, although the gamer was able to interact with the story. Now days, games seem to just be games, allowing you to play, but not really interact with a good story. There haven't been many games whose story I would like to read in the last few years, and I believe that is the real strength of the BT series.

If a new bard's tale with the same style interface as the classics were released for the PC, I would definately buy it! Better yet, release it on the Commodore 64 too, you'll sell thousands. I'm not really interested in a top-down style RPG. (I prefer keyboarding over controllers!)

Hi, this is a letter to add my name to the petition for Bard's Tale 4 from Electronic Arts... That game was a real eye-opener for me. It was a sense of deep excitement; I remember cutting my neighbor's grass and thinking about critical hits, bards and dragons, it was all very mysterious and somehow mystical at the same time. I guess that it was my first glimpse into a bigger world. What a precious memory! For BTII, I remember my friend bringing it and installing it on the C-64, and BTIII was the first one that I could solve by myself. Fantastic stuff. If a new version were released it could perhaps be done in a vintage-style that would endear it to all of us fans, while speeding up gameplay a bit...however as another member said, saving the game only in the adventurers guild was a great feature, giving you that sense of danger, will I return in time!? Its nice to know there is a community of people who grew up with these games. Its amazing how many people can be affected by one person, or team's efforts. It makes me think of karma...just imagine how much good can come from doing something fun, playing games! The BT1 game got me started with the RPGs and led to Ultima III IV and V, Might and Magic (all for the C-64!) Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds. I think that was the last one that I played on the C-64. Thanks again for reading, and I hope that we may meet someday!

I have been waiting for years for a Bard's Tale 4. I love the series. I personally think Michael Cranford did the best Bard's Tale games; BTII was by far my favorite. I wish he'd do a new one; he seemed a natural at great storylines.

Bard's Tale is one of the coolest games ever and another one should be made or they should at least put them all together for a Trilogy pack.
